Calling all volunteers!
We have put together a list of committees for the year with a brief description of the responsibilities as well as what board member is the oversight person for those committees. This list should aid in your decision as to what best fits your schedule as well as area of expertise. Please take a look and contact the respective board member with the area that you want to serve on. We’ve tried to make it easy for everyone to participate!
COMMUNICATIONS / MEDIA:
Communications Director: LaDawn Bentley, ASID / communications@asidaznorth.org
Creative Brief :
Chair: OPEN
Works closely with Communications Director to create newsletter/E-blast from member submissions. Gathers and resizes photos to accompany articles. Creates links to relevant sites. The Creative Brief newsletter is published monthly, Eblast emails are published weekly.
Desert Design Magazine:
Chair/Editor: LaDawn Bentley, ASID / communications@asidaznorth.org
Editorial Staff: Dede Radford, Industry Partner Rep / dede.radford@dunnedwards.com
Develops editorial plan based on a pre-determined theme striving to maintain a 50/50 relationship of editorial content to advertising content. Edited content is submitted to DSA Publishing graphic artist for layout. Proofs are reviewed by committee and upon sign-off of the final proof by the editor and/or Communications Director, it is sent to the printer for printing and distribution. The magazine is published quarterly.
Social Media:
Chair: OPEN
Monitors and updates the Chapter’s social media sites of Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter with content approved by the Communications Director.
Website:
Chair: OPEN
Maintains chapter website www.asidaznorth.org with yearly, quarterly, and monthly updates and acts as liaison with web host DSA Publishing.
Membership Directory: Administrator
Public Relations: Administrator
Works closely with the President and Communications. Provides press releases, articles and general information to local media sources. Participates in the design and creation of ads. Acts as an advisor to the Director at Large and the Board as a whole.

Chapter Meetings:
Chair: OPEN
Assists membership director with event planning. Utilizes a committee of volunteers to oversee details and ensure publicity deadlines are met, and events go smoothly. May assist with accommodations for speakers and other activities as needed.
Ambassadors
Chair: Rick Emrich, Industry Partner Representative of Bedmart
Committee meets and greets all members at events, making them feel at ease in the crowd by introducing them to other members. Makes sure there is always chapter members on hand who can answer questions about the chapter and ASID membership. Photographs events for chapter media use.
Emerging Professionals
Chair: Gabriela Jacobsen, Allied ASID / gabby@jacobseninteriordesign.com

Engages emerging professionals – ASID practitioners with five years or less experience – by welcoming them into the chapter, inviting them to serve in appropriate chapter leadership positions and providing additional events of interest for this target audience.
Membership Retention
Chair: Marcia Gonzales, ASID / designplace@cox.net
Works with the Membership Director by contacting all new members and welcoming them to the chapter. Assists the chapter Administrator in compiling and stocking new member packets. Makes follow-up calls to any lapsed members to ensure they are aware of their membership status.
Membership Promotion
Chair: Denise Belancik, Industry Partner Representative of Cosentino
Is available at events and activities to explain the benefits of membership.
Design Excellence Awards Gala

Organizes the design competition and arranges for jurying of the entries. The President oversees all activities, including establishing a theme, publicity, and all coordination and event planning of the awards gala.
Design for Hire Event
Administrator

Works together with Administrator and Communications to promote event to the public. Event consists of matching clients (the public) with designers to provide a maximum of two hours of consultation to each client. Monies are received by the chapter to support chapter activities and student education.
Home Tour

Develops a home tour that showcases design talent of our membership. Determines venue/locations and executes schedule of events for each day.
Professional Development

Professional Development Day

Creates an event promoting professional education and business development for practitioners. Event creation includes locating the venue, choosing the topics and speakers, marketing the event, and coordinating with the chapter administrator for registration of attendees.

Assists the Professional Development Director in coordinating a round table discussion with professional Interior Designers. The day provides learning seminars, resume and portfolio review, and mentorship from top professionals.
Charette

Assists the Professional Development Director in creating an event that is catered to the student learning of working through the NCIDQ exam. The students participate in a day long charette in which they are paried in teams depending on their education level. The top team is awarded a scholarship to the school of their choice.
Gathering

Interfaces between ASID AZ North student members and the Board of Directors. Conducts the chapter’s three main student events: the Student Gathering, Student Career Day, and the Student Design Charette. Conducts an outreach to each college/university in the area to attract additional student members. The Student Rep to the Board works closely with this committee to facilitate the needs of the individual student chapters.
High School Outreach

Interfaces with the directors of various high school programs. Conducts an outreach to several high schools in the area to attract additional future student members. The Student Rep to the Board works closely with this committee.
Elements Trade Show

Chair: Open
Organizes and hosts a trade show bringing vendors and designers together. Responsibilities include: Locating venue, contracting caterer & rental company, getting sponsorships, and selling vendor booths to IP members.

Works with the chapter’s current charity(ies) of choice. Goals may include volunteer projects and/or opportunities to donate funds/items to help the charity. Provides project updates and articles for chapter media use.
Legislative Liaison

Works closely with the Interior Design Coalition of Arizona (IDCA) and its efforts to pursue future legislation that advocates for our profession. Keeps ASID board and members aware of the latest occurrences within the legislative community. Attends IDCA board meetings, events & promotions. Chair attends ASID National Legislative Symposium and reports back to board; writes quarterly articles (at minimum) for Desert Design Magazine.

Encourages individuals/firms/vendors to assist funding chapter activities, primarily relating to the chapter’s annual Design Excellence Awards Event. Formulates sponsorship letter and forms, distributes to membership, and follows-up regularly via telephone, email and personal visits to receive funds.
