Calling all volunteers!

We have put together a list of committees for the year with a brief description of the responsibilities as well as what board member is the oversight person for those committees.  This list should aid in your decision as to what best fits your schedule as well as area of expertise.  Please take a look and contact the respective board member with the area that you want to serve on.  We’ve tried to make it easy for everyone to participate!

Committees 2011-2012

COMMUNICATIONS / MEDIA: 

Creative Brief:
Communications Director:

Works closely with Communications Director and Naylor, LLC (publisher) to create newsletter/E-blast from member submissions.  Gathers and resizes photos to accompany articles.  Creates links to relevant sites.    The newsletter is published monthly.

Desert Design Magazine:

Develops editorial plan based on a pre-determined theme striving to maintain a 50/50 relationship of editorial content to advertising content.  Edited content is submitted to DSA Publishing graphic artist for layout.  Proofs are reviewed by committee and upon sign-off of the final proof by the editor and/or Communications Director, it is sent to the printer for printing and distribution.  The magazine is published quarterly.

Works closely with Communications Director and Naylor, LLC (publisher) to provide editorial content of interest to members, member lists, and artwork for the directory cover.  Naylor, LLC sells and places advertising as well as prints and distributes the directory once the committee has completed proofing.  The directory is published once a year.

Works closely with Communications Director and President.  Provides press releases, articles and general information to local media sources.  Participates in the design and creation of ads.  Willing to participate in meetings with Phoenix Home & Garden Magazine with Communications Director (PHG liaison).  Acts as an advisor to the Communications Director and the Board as a whole.

Meets and greets all members at events, making them feel at ease in the crowd by introducing them to other members. Makes sure there is always chapter members on hand who can answer questions about the chapter and ASID membership. Photographs events for chapter media use.

Design Excellence Competition and Awards Event

Organizes the design competition, including the development of the call for entry form, and arranging for jurying of the entries. Committee members are not eligible to enter the competition. The committee works closely with the chapter President to establish a theme and all coordination of the Awards Event. This includes a power point presentation of the winning projects, sponsorship acquisition, AV equipment, DJ, MCs, decorations, print materials, food, and registration, among other tasks required to run the event.

Plans schedule of events (if necessary) for 1-month fundraiser in spring.  Promotes to designers and gets sign-ups 6 weeks prior to event starting.  As clients respond to ads/articles, organizes list of clients and distributes to designers on sign up list. Contacts designers regularly for status updates, follow-ups for payment, follows-up with clients to ensure completeness and satisfaction. Assists designers in how to handle initial consultation and payment. Works with chapter administrator regarding client payments/deposits and spreadsheet tracking of event.

Designers’ Own Homes Tour

Develops a 1- to 3-day event that showcases design talent of our membership. Determines venue/locations and executes schedule of events for each day. Coordinates delivery, installation and teardown of event.

Engages emerging professionals – Allied Members that have graduated their design program within the last five years – by welcoming them into the chapter, inviting them to serve in appropriate chapter leadership positions and providing additional events of interest for this target audience.

Step/NCIDQ

Facilitates workshops related to studying for the exam that are periodically conducted nationwide and is comprised of 20 hours of instruction over a 2 1/2-day period.  Provides to each participant a comprehensive workbook including practicum exercises and multiple-choice sections similar to those in the NCIDQ exam. Practice tests are administered and thoroughly reviewed during the workshop. The workbook also includes helpful practice exams that participants may take home with them.

Organizes and hosts a trade show bringing vendors and designers together.  Responsibilities include: Locating venue, contracting caterer & rental company, getting sponsorships, and selling vendor booths to IP members.

Interfaces between ASID AZ North student members and the Board of Directors.  Conducts the chapter’s three main student events: the Student Gathering, Student Career Day, and the Student Design Charette.  Conducts an outreach to each college/university in the area to attract additional student members.  The Student Rep to the Board works closely with this committee to facilitate the needs of the individual student chapters.

Legislative Liaison

Works closely with the Interior Design Coalition of Arizona (IDCA) and its efforts to pursue future legislation that advocates for our profession.  Keeps ASID board and members aware of the latest occurrences within the legislative community.  Attends IDCA board meetings, events & promotions. Chair attends ASID National Legislative Symposium and reports back to board; writes quarterly articles (at minimum) for Desert Design Magazine.

Works with the Membership Director by contacting all new members and welcoming them to the chapter.  Assists the chapter Administrator in compiling and stocking new member packets.  Makes follow-up calls to any lapsed members to ensure they are aware of their membership status.
