The NCIDQ Exam
NCIDQ Preparatory Courses
ASID has long recognized the key role that the NCIDQ examination plays in an Interior Designer’s career plans. Passage of this rigorous test signifies the hallmark of professionalism in the interior design community, and alerts the public to the expertise and experience of the Designer who has met this challenge.
Previously, the STEP program was developed to prepare designers to take the NCIDQ. STEP is currently on hold, however, ASID provides links to instructors and courses that provide a broad perspective of the issues and information pertinent to the NCIDQ exam. Click here for more information.
Note that ASID and the ASID Arizona North Chapter do not recommend or endorse any one course or study program, you need to research the options to determine if the course is appropriate for you.
NCIDQ maintains minimum education and work experience requirements for eligibility to earn the NCIDQ Certificate. Visit the NCIDQ website to learn more about examination and eligibility requirements.
Taking the NCIDQ Examination requires two steps: application and registration. NCIDQ uses your application to determine your eligibility to take the NCIDQ Examination.
If you have completed your education but not your experience, you can apply to take the Interior Design Fundamentals Exam (IDFX) regardless of how much experience you have. Once you have completed the IDFX and the necessary work experience, you can come back to NCIDQ and apply to take the remaining two sections of the exam to earn your NCIDQ Certificate.
If you have completed your education AND all your experience, you can apply to earn your NCIDQ Certificate by taking all three sections of the exam–the Interior Design Professional Exam (IDPX) and the Practicum Exam (PRAC). Once your application is accepted, you will receive information about how and when to register for one, two, or all three NCIDQ Examination section(s) in any combination you wish to take. If your application is not accepted, you will be notified that you are missing information or do not yet meet the requirements.
The NCIDQ Examination application consists of an online application form and the submission of all required supporting documents.
FEES vary depending on which examination you are going to take. Click here for a listing of the fees for the examination.
REGISTRATION AND DEADLINES: You should be aware of two NCIDQ Examination deadlines: the application deadline and the registration deadline. When you apply to take the NCIDQ Exam section(s), you are eligible to register for the eligible sections you wish to take in each administration cycle.
There are two NCIDQ examination deadlines: June 1 for the Fall examination and December 1 for the Spring examination. If NCIDQ receives your supporting documents package after the current application deadline, they will consider your application for the next exam cycle.
Visit www.ncidq.org for more information on application and registration deadlines.
