“From Crisis To Opportunity: How To Attract (not desperately seek) Your Ideal Client or Job” Presented by Liesbet Trappenburg, National Speaker (IDCEC Course #8619; .2 CEU’s, 2 hours) This CEU session expanded on personal core values and instructed attendees how to bring their authenticity confidently into the new economy and reinvent their “brand.” The program was: Inspirational, encouraging and uses chaos as a catalyst to reframe current conditions as an ideal opportunity to re-imagine designers’ business and careers.  When nothing is certain, everything is possible! Today’s economy requires designers to be curious, flexible, positive, and authentically proactive (not reactive!).  Attendees learned how to reframe economic conditions as an opportunity to reinvent and reposition their “brand.” Attract (not desperately seek) their ideal clients or job. They discovered a bigger picture of their business and career to create new strategies for an inspired action plan.  Attendees compared and evaluated a new business model versus the old business model and how these changes affect their branding strategy.

February 9, 2013 Student Charette Competition
Held at Glendale Community College

Our Student Design Charette is structured to reflect the elements of the NCIDQ exam, in which the event is a full day of collaborative design work. Students were grouped in a mixture of talent and years of education in each group. First year students gain as much from the competition as those that are in their final year. Each group had an experienced designer to serve as a mentor throughout the day.

Participants needed to bring their drafting tools, markers, and pencils. Drafting paper, card stock, foam core, and adhesives was provided for elevations and renderings. Of course, if the students had favorite materials, they brought them along! Following group presentations, a panel of designers and instructors determined the winners of the competition. The winners will be announced at the Student Career Day held on April 6, 2013. The competition was open to student members of ASID only.

A STANDING OVATION – ASID Volunteer Appreciation

Seminar: An informative presentation by Cosentino will explore the unique fabrication methods of Silestone. Through superior strength, incredible beauty and an unparalleled distribution network, Silestone is rapidly becoming the choice for discerning consumers. There are many advantages to using Silestone: since it is a surface that is manufactured from natural quartz, it is a surface highly resistant to stains and scratches, and has a low level of fluid absorption. Silestone comes in over 60 quartz colors for countertops, two textures and several different formats, which make it extremely versatile, and can even be used in large pieces without requiring any joins. Silestone is perfect for use in a great many applications in the kitchen and bathroom.
